Influence of dental alloys on oral mucosa

Abstract:

Numerous studies have investigated possible oral and systemic adverse effect of alloys which are commonly used in dental practice. Concentrations of metal ions in saliva are significantly higher in patients with metal restorations and in most cases at least one of released ions is ingredient of dental cast alloy, which is a direct proof of releasing ions into the saliva. Local toxicity of released ions presents a bigger issue because the oral epithelial cells are directly exposed to higher concentration of released chemicals.
