Abstract:

It has been confirmed that many children and adolescents have depression, and is diagnosed according to international classifications. The diversity in forms of depressive reactions in children and adolescents is related to specificity of developmental phases. In small children, pre-school and elementary school children in the forefront may be inhibitions during playtime, insecurities, contact seeking, agitation, crying outbursts, temper tantrums, encopresis and enuresis, appetite and sleeping disorders, nightmares and learning difficulties. In adolescents depression symptoms are closer to those of adults, yet different. Treatment depends on the age of the child in the sense that each phase of development is reflected in a phase-specific circumstance. Another important factor in choosing the treatment is to assess which factors are responsible for the development of certain forms of depression. Today multimodal disease management is considered to be the most effective.
