Radiologic diagnosis of breast diseases
Breast carcinoma is the leading cause of death for women in Croatia, so it is crucial to detect it early as timely treatment increases the possibility of multi-year survival. Mammography is the most important imaging method in detecting breast carcinoma, especially in women older than 40 years. Ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI ) are additional imaging methods used in analyzing changes within the breast. Radiologically detected suspicious lesion in the breast requires histopathologic analysis. Biopsy technique should be minimally invasive yet accurate, to reduce the morbidity associated with the biopsy of benign lesions. Core needle biopsy is the recommended technique for analyzing lesions in the breast because it is a reliable method without significant complications and allows for further treatment planning in patients with breast carcinoma.
