Abstract:

Obesity in children, adolescents and adults is becoming one of the greatest public health problems of the 21st century. Obesity in childhood favors the development of obesity and obesity-associated diseases during adolescence and adulthood. Trends of a growing incidence of obesity in children are being noted nationally and globally, attracting the attention of experts of various profiles. Obesity is a disease in itself, but also a risk factor for the development of many chronic non-infectious diseases. Cardio-vascular diseases, hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and atherosclerosis are the leading causes of mortality in the contemporary world. The limited possibilities of pharmacological and surgical treatment of obesity in children emphasize the importance of prevention and coordinated prevention programs.
