Diet and lifestyle - role in the treatment of obesity

Abstract:

Obesity can be considered a real pathology and it is defined as a chronic, relapsing, multifactorial, neurobehavioral disease, in which an increase in body fat promotes adipose tissue dysfunction, which results in unfavorable metabolic, biomechanical and psychosocial health consequences (1). Obesity represents one of the biggest public health problems associated with increased morbidity and mortality, significantly increasing the risk of suffering from arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus type 2, coronary heart disease, polycystic ovaries and numerous other disorders. In the approach to the treatment of obesity, it is necessary to simultaneously adjust the three most important factors that influence the increase in body weight: diet, healthy sleep and physical activity, over an adequate period of time, in order to achieve and maintain satisfactory weight loss results, thus improving the overall health.
