Abstract:

Mucocutaneous bullous diseases include a wide group of diseases characterized by the appearance of blisters on the skin and mucous membranes. The most common ocular symptoms in patients with mucocutaneous bullous diseases are itching and blistering of the eyes, foreign body sensation, redness, and increased lacrimation. The most common complications are cicatrizing conjunctivitis, shortening of the fornix, symblepharon, trichiasis, dry eye, corneal epithelial defect, ulceration and vascularization, and ocular surface keratinization. The mentioned changes can lead to a decrease in visual acuity and blindness. Treatment of ocular symptoms is mainly based on systemic therapy of the disease and local care. For a favourable outcome of the disease, timely establishment of the correct diagnosis and an interdisciplinary approach in management and treatment of patients with bullous dermatoses are required
