Communication in emergency medicine
Communication in emergency medicine is extremely demanding. The emergency medicine physician has to communicate simultaneously with the patient, patient’s family and environment, officers from other services and physicians from other services to whom the patient will be referred to for further treatment. The quality of communication from the very moment of receiving an emergency medical call is a prerequisite for good continuity of care and successful treatment of emergency patient. The patient is only one of the participants in the communication process, and patient’s benefit is the ultimate common goal. Emergency medicine physicians communicate with different audiences, using both verbal and nonverbal communication.
