Clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases in postmenopause, pregnancy and other gynecological conditions
The hormonal changes that women undergo throughout their lives are associated with a greater or lesser risk of cardiovascular disease. Traditional cardiovascular risk factors are mostly dominant in older women. But there are certain specific risk factors, such as inflammatory diseases, that contribute to the development of cardiovascular disease in younger and middle-aged women. In women of reproductive age, hypertensive pregnancy disorders and gestational diabetes contribute to the earlier onset of cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular risk increases as a woman enters menopause, which requires special attention to ensure optimal assessment of cardiovascular risk and ensure the best possible quality of life. This paper presents practical, interdisciplinary, clinical guidelines on gynecological and obstetric conditions that interact with cardiovascular risk in women during different gynecological stages of their lives, based on present evidence and currently best available practice.
