Individualized approach to a patient on anticoagulant therapy
Venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, is a frequent disease in general population, associated with significant mortality, possible long-term health consequences that impair the quality of life of patients, frequent recurrences and high cost to the health care system. Vitamin K antagonists are oral anticoagulant drugs that have been used for more than half a century in the prevention and treatment of VTE. In recent years, new direct oral anticoagulant drugs are used increasingly. Today, an individualized approach to each patient who requires anticoagulant treatment is important to determine the most optimal anticoagulant therapy.
