Abstract:

Transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells is a procedure in which hematopoietic stem cells are given to a recipient with the intention of complete or partial repopulation and replacement of the hematopoietic system. For many years, allogeneic stem cell transplantation remains the backbone of the treatment of myeloid neoplasms and is often the only curative option. The most common indications for allogeneic transplantation are myeloid neoplasms, and acute myeloid leukemia accounts for approximately one third of all indications for allogeneic transplantation. Due to the morbidity and mortality associated with this type of treatment, the decision whether transplant should be made individually, taking into account the potential curative effect of the transplant as well as the disease- and patient-associated risk factors.
