Patient with chronic kidney disease in the family medicine physicians office

Abstract:

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a growing public health problem due to the steady increase in prevalence as a consequence of population aging and the development of chronic non-communicable diseases. An unrecognized CKD leads to a series of cardiovascular problems, the development of anemia and ultimately ends with kidney failure, with a significant increase in the cost of treatment. Family medicine physicians have an active role in recognizing, treatment of CKD and monitoring of the progression of the disease, complications and the underly-ing conditions that have preceeded the disease. Untreated or inadequately treated CKD leads to re-duced duration and poor quality of life.
