Importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in diagnostics of temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain
Temporomandibular disorders encompass a wide range of stomatognatic system pathologies. One of the most frequent and unpleasant symptoms of temporomandibular disorders is pain. The aetiology of the disorder may be quite obvious in one case and completely unclear and complex in other. Due to numerous and versatile causes and frequent comorbidities of temporomandibular disorders, they are diagnostically challanging. Their treatment requires team work and interdisciplinary approach in order to recognize the causes in a timely fashion and choose appropriate therapeutic procedures, especially in the treatment of orofacial pain, which may be difficult to diagnose.
