The ultrasound of the knee and Achilles tendon in the emergency
The ultrasound is used less often in emergency musculoskeletal radiology than in the other areas of radiology, but it is very useful in the diagnosis of inflammatory diseases or Achilles tendon injuries in the emergency department. In addition to the acute partial or complete rupture, the differential diagnosis of acute pain in the area of the Achilles tendon also includes acute tendinosis and paratendinitis. The most common pathology of the knee joint is represented by intra-articular effusions, bursitis, hematoma, tendon rupture, tendinitis, synovitis, Baker‘s cyst and fractures. Ultrasound of the Achilles tendon and knee in the emergency department can speed up diagnosis and the triage of the patients with injuries or inflammation of superficial structures available for analysis.
