Testicular ultrasound in the acute indications

Abstract:

Acute testicular pain and swelling account for up to 0.5% of all emergency room visits. Although this represents a small fraction of total visits, the failure to recognize some conditions, such as testicular torsion, can have serious consequences for the patient's overall life. With the use of the ultrasound, the doctor in the emergency room can easily recognize and differentiate between harmless and dangerous conditions. In this paper, we will show why it is important to master testicular ultrasound techniques, with an emphasis on the ultrasound anatomy, examination protocol, and the presentations of the most common, as well as the most dangerous, acute conditions that can be encountered in the emergency room.
