The role of family doctors in the management of the patients with obesity

Abstract:

Obesity is recognized as one of the leading risk factors for the development of chronic non-communicable diseases, primarily diabetes type 2, arterial hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and dyslipidemia. The prevention of the obesity, that is, recognizing and treating it in time, is of the utmost importance. Family medicine doctor plays one of the key roles in the mentioned process, as the provider of health care for the patient and as the doctor who, with his individual approach to the patient and with the privilege of knowing the circumstances in which thepatient lives and works, has the opportunity to provide the necessary care to his patient in a timely manner. The treatment primarily involves a change in the lifestyle as well as the permanent adoption of healthy lifestyle habits. Family medicine doctor plays a key role in guiding the patient through the entire process.
