The efficacy of combining budesonide/formoterol Turbuhaler as a maintenance therapy and symptomatic therapy in the treatment of exacerbations of asthma – SMART approach

Abstract:

Large and multi-center studies have shown that the approach to treating asthma with Symbicort Turbuhaler 160/4.5μg as a maintenance therapy and, if necessary, for symptomatic treatment, significantly reduces the risk of severe exacerbations, has better control of the disease and reduces the cumulative burden of inhaled corticosteroids. A case report of a female patient with allergic asthma, who has a high risk of developing severe exacerbations, showed how the therapeutic approach of treating with Symbicort Turbuhaler 160/4.5μg, as a maintenace therapy and for the treatment of acute worsening, leads to improved asthma control, reduction of risks of severe exacerbation, as well being safe and highly effective.
