The effectiveness of a fixed combination of budesonide / formoterol Turbuhaler compared with high doses of inhaled corticosteroids in moderately severe and severe asthma: a case study

Abstract:

Large clinical trials have demonstrated that the concept of treating asthma using a fixed combination of inhaled glucocorticosteroids (ICS) and formoterol for both maintenance and relief therapy significantly reduces the risk of asthma exacerbations and improves control of the disease, along with a lower corticosteroid load. A case report of a female patient with allergic asthma and increased risk of exacerbations showed that the treatment approach combining budesonide/formoterol applied by a Turbuhaler device, for maintaining long-term control and management of acute asthma exacerbations, was effective and safe and simplified the treatment of asthma.
