Abstract:

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is the most common anemia in the general population. Iron deficiency with the development of IDA is especially common among pre-school children, during pregnancy and among women in generative age. IDA can occur because of gastrointestinal, gynecological and other chronic hemorrhages, may contribute to cardiac failure in cardiac patients, and could be part of clinical manifestations of other diseases and conditions. Treatment of IDA requires teamwork. It is important to detect and treat the underlying cause of IDA and to treat anemia with iron supplementation. Oral and parenteral iron preparations can be used for the treatment of IDA.
