Oral rehabilitation of elderly patients with dentures

Abstract:

The number of elderly population continues to increase worldwide, especially in developing countries. Poor oral health among elderly people results in increased tooth loss and high rate of caries and different periodontal diseases, xerostomia and precancerous lesions. Depending on the general health status and degree of stomatognatic system deterioration, prosthetics treatment is one of the very often dental treatments. The present paper shows a case of an elderly patient with the frontal teeth abrasion associated with the loss of molars followed by the courses of prosthetic treatment. Prosthetic therapy and rehabilitation included the four-month treatment with occlusal splints, insertion of the post and cores and semicircular upper dental bridge.
