News in interventional cardiology

Abstract:

Interventional cardiology has evolved dramatically over the last 50 years. At first, it was primarily based on the treatment of coronary artery disease. In recent years, the treatment of valvular diseases has been the subject of interest besides the percutaneous coronary intervention. Modern methods of treatment have been developed, primarily for the treatment of severe aortic valvular stenosis and secondary mitral regurgitation. These methods, although present for several years, have not yet been clearly established in clinical practice, their value still being reviewed and defined. On the other hand, despite more than 50 years of practice in percutaneous coronary interventions, the effectiveness of this method of treatment and concomitant therapy, primarily anti-aggregation therapy, is still under review. What all recent guidelines have in common is that they recommend the individualization of patient treatment and the formation of multidisciplinary teams to decide on treatment methods for each individual patient.
