Modern aspects of treatment of atopic dermatitis
Allergic diseases, particularly childhood allergies, have reached epidemic proportions in the 21st century. Increasing prevalence of atopy and asthma has become a serious public health problem. Early treatment of atopic dermatitis improves treatment success and helps prevent the appearance of other atopic diseases, such as asthma. The current trends focus on the long-term, proactive and safe atopic dermatitis treatment that would be effective in acute disease control and exacerbation prevention. For that purpose, many studies have been conducted to evaluate the effects of topical anti-inflammatory agents, such as immunomodulators, and the effects of corticosteroids (local and systemic), immunosuppressive agents and specific immunotherapy.
