Age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) quality of life
Age-related macular degeneration is chronic and progressive macular disease and leading cause of blindness in developed countries among people older than 65 years. There are two types of ARMD, dry and wet form. ARMD is uncurable disease whose progression can only be slowed down by choosing the right therapy. Anti-VEGF therapy is currently a choice in treating wet form of ARMD. Central visual loss among patients with ARMD is main cause of difficulties in everyday life leading to poorer quality of life. Patients loose independency in carrying out everyday activities and require assistance which leads to higher depression and anxiety rate, comparing to people of the same age. ARMD is more than just ophthalmological illness, so treating a patient needs interdisciplinary approach, highlighting psychological aspect and support under the new circumstances.
