Abstract:
The main characteristics of inflammatory bowel disease are intestinal inflammation and epithelial injury. Chronic inflammation occurs due to the changes in the epithelial barrier function under the influence of genetic and environmental factors. The destructive immune response of the immune cells from the intestinal mucosa plays a key role in this process, causing tissue damage and manifestation of the clinical symptoms. Therefore, studying the regulation of signaling pathways is crucial to understanding immune cell activation and communication, which is now possible with new, promising biomarkers and therapeutic strategies
Key words:
Crohn’s disease; inflammatory bowel disease (IBD); ulcerative colitis
