Hyperbaric oxygen therapy: signaling pathways and molecular mechanisms

Abstract:

The signaling and molecular pathways of oxygen, as well as hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), have been the subject of numerous studies. Although certain positive effects have been unequivocally proven, the mechanisms themselves have not been fully clarified. HBOT stimulates various cellular responses that are mediated by increased production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, which results in an increase in oxidative stress, but also an increase in antioxidant capacity. Positive but also potentially toxic effects are mediated by the same mechanisms.
