European harmonisation of preventive measures for sun protection
The 5th International conference of the European Society of Skin Cancer Prevention (EUROSKIN), “Reducing the Health Risks of Sunbed Use - Needs for Further European Harmonization of Regulations,” was held in Hamburg, Germany, in October 2007. Previous research conducted in Australia and Scandinavian countries has shown that increased incidence of skin cancers is associated with stronger ultraviolet radiation, increased sun exposure and use of sunbeds. The importance of preventative measures in protection from ultraviolet rays is highlighted, including the use of sun protective clothing (long sleeves, hats, and so on) and sun glasses, avoidance of sun exposure between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and special sun protection of infants and small children. It is recommended that sunbeds should not be used for cosmetic purposes, i.e., they should be used for therapeutic purpose only
