Author: Roberta Marković, Nina Bašić-Marković
Abstract:

Heart failure is a clinical syndrome marked by the distinct symptoms and signs due to the structural and/ or functional cardiac abnormalities. It has a prevalence of 1-2% in the adult population of the developed countries. Diagnosing this condition involves taking a detailed patient history, physical exam, EKG, and basic lab tests, including natriuretic peptide levels. High peptide levels necessitate an echocardiogram. The treatment aims to enhance clinical status and quality of life, prevent hospitalization, and reduce the mortality rates, integrating both pharmacological and patient-driven non-pharmacological strategies. Family medicine doctor is crucial in the continuous care and management of these patients..
