To novo patološko stanje u literaturi se naziva suhim okom zbog nošenja zaštitne maske (engl. mask-associated dry eye, MADE).

Dry eye disease, a common multifactorial disease of the ocular surface, is becoming a severe global health issue due to the serious effects it can have on a patient’s ocular health, general health, as well as quality of life. In the current COVID-19 epidemic, masks are recommended worldwide as an important part of reducing virus transmission. Consequently, there has been a substantial increase in dry eye symptoms among people who regularly wear masks. In literature, this new pathological condition is called mask-associated dry eye (MADE). As it is likely that mask wearing will continue in the future, it is important to discuss its associated implications on eye health and the prevention of eye infections.
