Praktične implikacije sekundarnih analiza ispitivanja UPLIFTSecondary analyses of the UPLIFT trial: practical implications

Recently published results of secondary analyses of specific subgroups of patients participating in the UPLIFT trial (patients with moderate chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD], “maintenance-free” patients, patients aged less than 50 years) showed that tiotropium was significantly more effective particularly in these patients. In addition, there is evidence that, in contrast to conventional thinking, decline of lung function occurs at a considerably faster rate in the early stages of the disease. These facts indicate the need for early diagnosis and timely, intensive intervention in COPD.
